Ripon 1st team travelled to Garforth Rangers off the back of a heavy defeat at home in the opening game of the season.
Micky’s squad was strengthened with Marsden, Baldwin, Tocher and Smith for today’s game. Ripon started the game well, creating chances early which fell to the striking pair for the day Haswell and Hodgson.
However the good start was undone when Marsden and Gracey were unable to clear the ball and the Garforth player shot from outside the box which saw the Ripon keeper Brook beaten, a goal against the run of play.
The equaliser came through Baldwin who started in center midfield, he picked up the ball outside the box and his shot angling to the top corner, the keeper got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out. The second was setup by Smith, Hodgson finding him down the right wing and he beat his man to the ball, as he approached the by line he pulled the ball back to Haswell who was there to finish with a cool side foot into the net. 2-1. Ripon continued to dominate the game, Haswell, Hodgson and Fox all having chances but the Garforth keeper was in fine form and pulling off some good stops.
Team talk was lead by Micky, he re-iterated the few things we were trying to work on and that we could do better.
The 2nd half started slowly for Ripon however Ripon’s defence never looked troubled. Ripon got the vital 3rd through Smith, good work from Hodgson down the right found Smith in the box and he slotted it into the net. 3-1
That goal seemed to be a knockout blow, Haswell got the forth and his 2nd to make it 4-1, Foxy got the 5th...galloping clear and slotted it past the keeper. 5-1.
Micky began making his changes, Fox was replaced by Groves, Smith moved into the middle of the park. Ripon got their 6th through Haswell who got his hat trick, his fast feet giving him the opportunity to score his 3rd.
Couple more substitutions Williams was replaced by Tulip, and Baldwin replaced by Puttock, all 3 subs under the age of 18 today.
The 7th came from Tulip, a good strike from the edge of the box saw the Garforth keeper beaten as the ball went in off the post 7-1. FT
Great way to bounce back from the defeat last week, Ripon now move onto the next game away on Wednesday night at Nostell, 7.30 kick off under the floodlights.
1st win away from home this season, we didn’t win away at all last season.
