Ripon travelled to Farsley without manger Micky Baldwin who was away, I was in charge again in Micky's absence.
The squad saw changes from last week, Vincent, Mason, Edmunds, Woodbridge, Abbott all missing, through injuries/work commitments/holidays etc. Haswell returned and Josh Plant was available.
The original pitch/location was declared unplayable mid morning so we played near Pudsey (Fulneck School). The pitch had a slight slope and was heavy in places from all the rain we've had recently.
With one eye on next weeks fixture we knew our opponents would be a tough test as they previously made the latter stages of the competition beating West Yorkshire Premier teams in their progress.
Ripon were shooting downhill in the 1st half with Howes and Haswell leading the line.
5mins 1st chance for Farsley, their striker broke through the Ripon defence but his shot was high and wide.
10mins Ripon's 1st chance Kyle Fox with a shot wide from distance, the Farsley keeper scampering across his goal.
15 mins 1-0, a cross field ball from left to right saw their winger head in at the back post, Clarke unable to get a challenge in and Shaw unable to keep it out in the Ripon goal.
Farsley were enjoying most of the possession and creating some half chances to extend their lead. When Ripon had the ball we were closed down well and unable to create anything going forward.
33 mins Another chance for Farsley but again the ball sailed over the bar
40 mins Great save from Ripon's keeper Shaw, striker clean through and his early shot was pushed onto the post and cleared to safety.
The lads knew they were in a game against good opposition and were asked to give us more at the start of the 2nd half.
Ripon started the half well, closing the opposition down and forcing mistakes but again nothing created in the final 3rd.
69 mins 2-0 to Farsley, a corner not cleared and dropped nicely for the Farsley players who's shot couldn't be kept out by Shaw in the Ripon goal who could only push it into the roof of the net.
70 min Lefevre replaced by Hodgson
88 min Ripon conceded the 3rd of the afternoon, Shaw beaten at his near post after a nice move by Farsley.
Ripon were unable to get anything out of yesterdays game against an organised and hard working team. Ripon will move on and look forward to next weeks game in the league. Baldwin will return from his week away and were hoping we will have some players returning to the squad.
