0-2 Away Win
Nostell Miners Welfare were the opponents for last night’s game in Ripon’s 3rd game of the season. Coming of the back of a comfortable win on Saturday the lads were in good spirits before kick off, the game took place under floodlights with a 7.30pm kick off.
The squad had a few changes from Saturday’s game, Marsden, Tocher, Smith, Groves all unavailable, in came Richardson, Hutchinson, Tinsley and Dalton.
Micky dropped Fox into the centre of defence and Baldwin to right back, midfield was all change apart from Williams on the left, Hutchinson, Richardson and Tinsley made up the midfield, no change up top, Hodgson and Haswell leading the line.
Ripon keeper Brook was called into action early doors, a good save at his left hand post from poor Ripon marking from a Nostell cross. Ripon were unable to keep the ball in the early stages, making some wrong decisions when in possession of the ball and giving it away too cheaply.
Ripon created their 1st chance of the game when Hodgson was put clear but couldn’t get enough power in his shot which trickled wide of the post. Ripon were getting more into the game, Nostell become content with possession but not really creating any chances. Nostell were quick on the break and created a few chances before half time but they were not taken as their number ten shot high over the bar.
Ripon finished the half on top and had created a few more chances before the break.
Half time talk was led by Micky and requested the same effort and concentration seen in the 1st 45 minutes. Ripon were comfortable but knew they were in a game and had to work together to get a result, we sensed the 1st goal was crucial.
2nd half started well for us, 10 minutes in and Ripon had a free kick inside the Nostell half, a great delivery saw Fox finish well with a powerful header.
Substitutions began with Josh replacing Carl who had put a shift in. Ripon were still looking comfortable although Nostell were having more possession, into the last 30 minutes. Nostell looked dangerous from set plays all night and we starting to put a bit of pressure on the back line of Ripon but we were still holding tight.
Dalton now replaced Haswell, Ripon then got the second of the evening through the substitute Dalton around the 75th minute mark. Dalton chased down a ball which was put through to him the keeper came out and the ricochet fell nicely to Dalton who finished well from outside the box 2-0.
Nostell put more pressure on the Ripon goal after the 2nd, but Brook and a clearance off the line kept the 1st clean sheet of the season. The last substitute was late on, Puttock replaced Tinsley who went down with an injury after a strong challenge. Puttock did have a chance to get another for Ripon late on he somehow got onto the end of a cross but couldn’t direct it down and it went over the bar.
Two wins on the bounce, two wins away....great team performance last night. Everyone worked for each other and concentration was the key.
Next game at home on Saturday to Ossett Albion.
Team: Brook, Baldwin, Fox, Gracey, Clarke, Tinsley, Richardson, Hutchinson, Williams, Hodgson, Haswell
