West Yorkshire Premier
Ripon City’s First XI travelled to Rothwell Athletic, to play in their first League fixture since the 1-0 away win at Beeston St. Anthony’s. After the rain during the week, one side of the pitch resembled Scarborough beach – the groundsman trying to make the ground more playable by laying sand down in the wetter areas. The sun was shining and the game got underway, the first half not really creating many chances that were clear cut for Ripon, and it certainly looked like any side could come away with a goal in the first half.
The second half didnt seem any different, with half chances falling to both sides, but the sun making a contributing factor to Rothwell’s attacks. Another long kick up field by the Rothwell keeper wasnt dealt with, and a mix up at the back allowed the Rothwell striker in to score. Ripon continued to push for a goal to bring the scores level, but it was just one of those days – plenty of offside descions that didnt go Ripon’s way.
Ripon City need to move on from this loss, and continue their good cup run, which continues in the Semi-Final on Thursday 1st April, at Nostell Miner’s Welfare at 7.30pm.
West Yorkshire Alliance One
