Ripon City’s First XI welcomed Harrogate First Division Champions, Knaresborough Celtic to Mallorie Park in the 2nd Round of the local Whitworth Cup; a win would send Ripon into the Semi-Final of the draw with a tie away at Kirk Deighton who also ply their trade in the Harrogate league.

Ripon started strongly going into the lead within the opening minutes of the game, and soon followed this up with their 2nd and 3rd goal. Ripon City, continually pressed against their opponents, and it always seemed that more goals were on the way, and Ripon went in at Half-Time with a 5-0 lead – one fantastic goal which involved George Medd running from the half way line, and rounding the keeper before neatly tucking it in the net.

The Half-Time team talk was simple – don’t stop – and Ripon didn’t – as a team they continued to press and apply pressure on the Knaresborough goalkeeper and defence, with the final score being settled at 9-0, although Ripon City will feel they could have scored more.

Ripon City’s Reserves played away at Rothwell Athletic Reserves, and came out with a share of the spoils with a 0-0 draw. A muddy and boggy pitch didnt help Ripon City play any real football.
