Ripon Reserves continued their amazing run of form when they overcame the very dubious ‘Reserve’ team from Robin Hood. Needing nothing less than three points, their team was strengthened somewhat from certain players who would usually be playing in the first 11. In fact a quick look at the stats shows that the team they fielded had players who had made around 120 appearances for the first team this year of which several had started 24,17, 16 and 16 games no less!!!
Anyway not to worry. After going one goal up from a Liam Gaffney effort Ripon then seemed to sit back allow Robin Hood to get a foothold in the game. After enjoying a good deal of pressure Robin Hood scored a well deserved equaliser just before half time. Then after most of the possession in the second period took a well worked lead to go 2-1 to the good. This seemed to spur on Ripon, who apart from the first twenty minutes of the first half had looked second best. Kyle Baldwin fired in the equaliser following good work from Gaffney and McGlinchey. Mark Marsden fired home from the spot and Ryan Blanchard completed the scoring for the hosts giving Ripon a four goals to two victory.
On Saturday Ripon Reserves entertain Rothwell, kick off 2.30pm. Then on Monday the curtain is brought down on what has been an excellent season for Nick and his team as they take on local rivals Wetherby this time it is a 6.30pm kick off. Rumour has it that ex first team boss Charlie Brown will be getting the boots on for this one, with Ripon’s number one supporter Michael being named amongst the subs!!!
