Match Report - Ripon City v Altofts

2 years ago By Daniel Metcalfe

Saturday saw Altofts the vistors to Mallorie Park on a wet late summer’s afternoon. Micky however was sunning himself in warmer climates so I took the reins with the club chairman assisting me.
Well we needed a reaction after last week’s poor performance. There were several absentees from last week’s squad, no Marsden, Baldwin, Richardson, Edmunds, Gracey. In came Mason, Bland, Levy, 3 new signings on the day, Mason needs no introduction, Bland has played under my management before and has played at a higher level in his younger days, Levy is a young 18 year old who has been attending training and showing some quality in those sessions.
Ripon got off to the worst start, Fox giving way a free kick in a central area just outside the box and the resulting free kick found its way past Brook in goal 0-1, 5 minutes gone. Altofts were a big team and every set play looked dangerous early doors, Ripon were however defending well, Mason and Bland marshalling the team well.
Ripon began to get more of the ball and Hodgson and Tinsley were working well on their respective wings. Fox and Hutchinson were getting to grips with things in the middle of the park and we were beginning to look dangerous every time we went forward.
Ripon got the equaliser through excellent play down the wing from Tinsley, he put a great ball in for Dalton to tap the ball home from close range! 1-1
Ripon were now in full flow, Dalton and Haswell working well up front, the midfield on top. Hutchinson put Ripon in the lead, his initial header didn’t go goal ward and somehow fell kindly for him to finish 2-1 Ripon.
The game should have been over in the 1st half several chances falling to Hodgson/Dalton/Tinsley/Haswell. HT 2-1
Half time team talk was easy, much of the same, the next goal would be vital...WIN!
The 2nd half started slowly for Ripon who were unable to keep hold of the ball, an early free kick for Altofts in a similar position to the one they scored in the 1st half came to nothing. Altofts were the brighter team at the start of the half.
Ripon were struggling to create a lot going forward, well compared to 1st half. Mason picked up a booking for a challenge on a Altofts player. The 3rd goal came from some good inter play and Fox weaved his way into the box and around a couple of the opposition, he could have shot earlier but weaved past another and finished well 3-1. Williams replace the hard working Dalton.
Tinsley was having joy all afternoon down the right, he put in another ball which was right across the 6 yard box but no Ripon player was there to get on the end of it. Tinsley was then replaced by Tulip. Ripon got their 4th through Haswell, Hodgson working well and closing the Altofts defenders down, the ball was given to Haswell who finished well after a couple of jinks on the edge of the box 4-1.
Puttock replaced Levy late on and Ripon deserved all 3 points as the final whistle came. 5 games played 3 wins, 1st home win of the season, we now need to build on the result as we have a tough trip away to Kellingley next weekend
Team: Brook, Levy, Bland, Mason, Clarke, Tinsley, Fox, Hutchinson, Hodgson, Haswell, Dalton
Subs: Puttock, Tulip, Williams
Scorers: Dalton, Hutchinson, Fox, Haswell
