Ripon welcomed Ossett Albion to Mallorie Park for the 2nd time this season, yesterdays game was in the County Challenge Cup. Ripon looking to make a mends for a poor performance which saw them defeated 6-0 at home against the same opponents.
Few squad changes from last week, no Wise or Tinsley, Fox returned as did Spence and Mason.
Ripon started the game well creating numerous chances in the opening exchanges and could have been a couple up if it wasn’t for the Ossett keeper. Ripon however were awarded a penalty inside the opening 20 minutes, Haswell stepped up and his penalty was saved to the keepers left, still 0-0.
Ripon continued to dominate the 1st half, Spence having a couple of chances but again Ripon couldn’t find the back of the net! Ossett weren’t really creating a lot and I don’t think Brenna in the Ripon goal had a shot to save in the 1st half.
Finishing needed to be better as discussed at half time, we knew we would need to be switched on from the beginning of the 2nd half as Ossett would get a chance on goal during this game.
Within minutes Ripon were 1-0 down, Brenna beaten in the Ripon goal, totally underserved after our 1st half performance. Ripon however sucked it up and were level within minutes! Hodgson with some good work down the left and his cross found Hutchinson a few yards out and his header beat the keeper 1-1.
Ripon got their second through Hodgson moments later, Spence with good work down the right and his cross found Hodgson at the back post who finished well into the roof of the net from a tight angle. 2-1
Ripon continued to press although Ossett were having more of the ball than we’d like. Ripon however got their 3rd, Fox was found 6 yards out and he finished into the roof of the net! 3-1.
The game should have been played out comfortably by Ripon but we let Ossett back into the game, a free kick was given away on the edge of the Ripon box and the Ossett player beat Brenna with a well placed free kick. 3-2
Ripon should have been comfortable but hadn’t put the game to bed yet! Ripon then got another penalty Baldwin was put through and the Ossett keeper wasn’t happy with what he thought was a high boot by Baldwin (nowhere near him and didn’t touch him) the keeper reacted by pushing Baldwin to the ground and received a yellow card...Baldwin took the penalty and slotted it home 4-2.
The game however wasn’t over, with less than 5 minutes to go Ripon conceded again, the Ossett player wasn’t closed down and his shot from distance dipped under the bar 4-3.
A nervous last few minutes till the final whistle but Ripon won the game and move into the next round of the cup
The 1sts now have a run of 3 away games and will be looking to keep up their 100% record away from home, Middleton Park up next.
Scorers: Hutchinson, Hodgson, Fox, Baldwin
