Saturday saw football return to Mallorie Park after a couple of weeks off. Ripon hosted Rawdon Old Boys who are sitting at the top of the league and unbeaten this campaign.
Ripon saw Marsden and Edmunds return to the squad and additions of Mawson and Layton completed the squad.
Ripon started the brighter team and in the opening 20 minutes were looking the better team, Bland with a header from a corner cleared off the line and Haswell shot at the keeper were the best chances Ripon created in the opening exchanges.
Rawdon however began to start getting joy, the movement of their forwards was causing Ripon a few problems. Gracey was getting a little frustrated with decisions not going his way.
Ripon conceded the 1st goal of the game through a poor kick from Metcalfe which found the Rawdon striker clean through on goal and he finished passed the on rushing Metcalfe. 0-1
Ripon found themselves 2 down before half time, Rawdon working the ball well and a threw ball found their striker, Metcalfe tried to close the angle but the shot hit the far post and went across the line off the other post 0-2
Half time and Ripon had played well and didn’t really deserve to be behind. We needed to continue the work rate we had shown in the 1st half. Mawson was replaced by Edmunds at half time and Hodgson was pushed out wide.
Ripon continued working hard and looked bright at the start of the 2nd half a shot from Fox from distance the most memorable. Ripon however went on to concede a 3rd from a corner, the ball flicked on and went in again off the post. 0-3
Ripon continued their hard work and a few half chances were created but Rawdon were defending well, you can see how they’ve only conceded two goals this season.
At the other end there were also chances being created, Metcalfe being called into action on a couple of occasions. Tinsley was replaced by Puttock.
Bland went down with a hamstring strain/pull so Micky had to make his last substitution. Bland replaced by Layton. Rawdon got their 4th with work down the right, the ball across the box was bundled over the line.
Rawdon got their 5th a ball played through the middle Metcalfe came out and the Rawdon player got through the tackle and finished into the empty net. 0-5
Ripon continued to press but failed to get a conciliation.
Rawdon were a well organised team and you can certainly see why there in top spot. Credit to Ripon who never stopped working and the score line was probably a bit flattering.
