Opening game success
Ripon City Ladies got their league campaign off to a great start on Sunday afternoon away at Farsley Celtic.
After gaining promotion, in their first season playing in the West Riding League division 3, the ladies were keen to keep up the momentum and push for a second successive promotion.
Playing up a steep hill first half, the ladies kept the ball well playing out from the back. The deadlock was broken after 12 minutes when Emma Douglas
raced on to a clever pass from Elizabeth Weatherill
and lifted the ball over the outrushing 'keeper.
Ripon continued to dominate possession and dictate the pace of the game, with the defence rarely called in to action.
The second half saw the visitors with the advantage of playing down the slope and they made good use of it pinning Farsley in their own half for large periods of the game. The second goal came from Louise Wilson
heading in from a corner.
With the game over as a contest Elizabeth Weatherill
made it three with a great individual effort from the right wing. Ellie Allinson
, making her competitive debut for the club, made it four nil finishing from close range after some good build up play from the ladies. Louise Wilson
added finished of the scoring and got her second of the game with a left foot finish during a goalmouth scramble. Player of the day was Emma Douglas
Manager Mal Bethell was very pleased with the performance. "It was a great start to the season with some very good individual performances but more importantly a fantastic team performance."
The ladies are in cup competition next, away at Skipton Ladies.
