Ripon City Ladies started the new season with a comfortable win at Mallorie Park against Leeds City.
The visitors were a relatively unknown opponent, having never faced them before.
The ladies started brightly and Louise Wilson worked hard as the lone striker, forcing the Leeds defence in to errors leading them to give the ball back to the Ripon side.
Two well taken goals by Wilson gave Ripon a comfortable lead before the ladies seemwd to take their foot off the gas, allowing Leeds to get back in to the game with a messy goal that the defence would have been disappointed to concede.
The second half saw a subdued start from Ripon which Leeds capitalized on drawing level with 35 minutes left to play. The goal seemed to kick Ripon back in to life and an onslaught on the Leeds goal saw Georgie Taylor strike from outside the goal and Jess Barnes cooly finish inside the box to make it 4-2.
Despite creating more chances the game ended 4-2.
Manager Mal Bethell said....
As much as we are pleased to have 3 points from the first game we need to concentrate and play at our full capabilities for 90 minutes if we want to achieve our goals this season.
