Ripon travelled to Rawdon on Saturday of the back of a poor run of results and were looking at another tough fixture against opponents flying high at the top of the league.
Micky had a few squad changes, no Marsden, Spence, Blanchard and Stewart (Broke Arm last week). In came Tyson, Tulip and Mawson, Metcalfe.
The starting line up picked itself really, Hutchinson filling in at Center Back and Clarke moving into Center Midfield were the main changes from last week. Ripon started ok, Rawdon were having a lot of the ball but not really troubling Ripon’s goal. Rawdon’s players movement was good, pulling the Ripon players out of position.
Rawdon got their breakthrough around the 30 minute mark, a shot from outside of the box beating Metcalfe low to his left hand side. 1-0
Ripon continued to work hard but were unable to create any clear chances, Mawson with probably the most memorable effort of the 1st half.
Micky requested more of the same and that we needed to work hard for the next 45 minutes and try and create something going forward if we could.
Early in the 2nd half Metcalfe gave a penalty, he rushed off his line and slide to try and win the ball from the Rawdon player and in the process brought the player down! On reflection it was a rash challenge when the Rawdon player had a lot still to do and it was doubtful whether he’d keep the ball in play. Penalty was converted, 2-0.
Minutes later Ripon found themselves 3-0 down, as shot from outside the box found the back of the net 3-0. Ripon needed to re-group, two early 2nd half goals could have opened the floodgates for more but further goals weren’t to come.
Tyson had to go off injured towards the end of the game due to a typical committed Tyson challenge which resulted with him being kneed in the back. Baldwin replaced him for the last 5 minutes.
The game finished with Ripon losing 3-0 against a strong Rawdon outfit. Next week see’s a home fixture against Great Preston.
